Renesas Electronics launches R-Car Gen3e for in-vehicle infotainment, smart cockpit, and digital instrument panel systems, with a 20% increase in CPU speed

The new SoC brings 2GHz speed, higher application integration, and stronger functional safety to a wide range of applications from entry to mid-range, as well as excellent scalability and software reuse of R-Car Gen3

Tokyo, Japan, July 20, 2021-Renesas Electronics Group (TSE: 6723), a global semiconductor solutions provider, today announced that the popular R-Car system-on-chip (SoC) has added a new product series-R-Car Gen3e. The new SoC product family has six new products, which are integrated cockpit domain controllers, in-vehicle infotainment systems (IVI), digital instrument panels, driver monitoring systems, and LED matrix lights, etc., which require high-quality graphics rendering from entry to mid-range vehicles Application to build a scalable lineup.

The new product expands the widely acclaimed R-Car Gen3 series SoC product line, and the CPU performance is increased to 50k DMIPS and 2GHz speed, helping automakers meet the ever-increasing user experience, network security, and functional safety requirements.

Renesas Electronics also simultaneously launched a "successful product portfolio" solution based on R-Car Gen3e products to shorten development time and reduce bill of materials (BOM) costs. Customers can combine R-Car Gen3e products with Renesashigh-precision clock ICs and power management products.

Naoki Yoshida, Vice President of Renesas ElectronicsAutomotive Digital Product Marketing Division, said: With the increasing popularity of augmented reality navigation systems and AI-based digital care assistants, automakers and Tier 1 suppliers need to be The rapidly growing demand for high-resolution displays and high-performance chips is balanced with the soaring BOM cost and longer development time. The new R-Car Gen3e and reference solutions build a seamless and cost-effective migration path. It is fully compatible with the existing R-Car Gen3 SoC and is easy to integrate, allowing customers to more easily bring their automotive-grade applications to the market."
